HBC beefs up Charity Ride event with auto show

The 6th Annual Home Builders Care Charity Ride is coming up Aug. 22! Get your motorcycles, classic vehicles, street rods, hot rods, cruisers or anything else that you enjoy riding ready for the road.

This year the planning committee hopes to have a car show at the end of the event. If you have a vehicle of interest that you would like to show off, please let us know. We realize that not all vehicles are able to make a long drive, but we certainly want those with cars, trucks, street rods, muscle cars, and any other type of automobile you can think of, to be able to join in on the event.

Another change is that the ride will start a little later in the morning. The planning committee is still working on the details, but the thought is to leave Fargo by 10 a.m., and ending back in Fargo to enjoy the evening and car show.

The fee to participate is still $15 for a single rider and $20 for a couple. Participants in the car show will also be $15 for a single person and $20 for a couple. Supper will be provided for all participants. The fee to participate is a charitable donation to the Home Builders Care Foundation.

We are in the process of securing sponsors for the Charity Ride. If you are interested in sponsoring and supporting this event, please contact Jenny at (701) 232-5846 or jenny@hbafm.com.

If you have any questions about the ride itself, contact Jenny at the HBA office, Bob Kochmann at (701) 367-4788 or Ken Krajsa at (701)388-6526.

Remember to get your motorcycle or vehicle in tip-top shape and working order for the ride!

RENEW Home Open House May 16 & 17

The Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead’s Remodelors Council and the Home Builders Care Foundation will host a RENEW Home open house from noon to 5 p.m. May 16 and 17. Parking is available on 9th St. S. or 4th Ave. S. The home is for sale to an income-eligible family or individual. People interested in purchasing this home can contact Dave Lanpher, Park Co. Realtors, Inc. at (701) 237-5031. You can also learn more about the house by viewing the home's listing.

The Remodelors Council and the Home Builders Care teamed up to remodel the RENEW House at 923 5th Ave. S., Fargo, in January of 2008. RENEW is an acronym for “restoring existing neighborhoods for everyone’s wellbeing.” Home Builders Care Foundation purchased the home, while Remodelors Council and HBA of F-M members coordinated the restoration project and provided much of the needed labor and materials. The city of Fargo awarded $15,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to the project, as it fit into the city’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.

The project goals were to give back to the community by helping someone achieve homeownership while highlighting the remodeling industry and showing F-M area residents what can be done to create a dream home from any existing home. Volunteers and donors added numerous amenities and updates to the 100-year-old home. The kitchen was completely remodeled and an addition was added to include a laundry room and increase the kitchen size and main-level bathroom.

The second level needed little work, but volunteers expanded the master bedroom closet and rearranged the upstairs bathroom to update the amenities.
