Members Meet Million-Dollar Goal For Career Workforce Academy

Did you hear the big news? HBA of F-M and Home Builders Care of F-M Foundation surpassed their goal to raise more than $1 million by year-end for the Cass County Career Workforce Academy. It’s all thanks to generous HBA members and friends of the industry. Nonetheless, we cannot allow our efforts and commitment to dwindle.

The Academy is designed as a public/private partnership with a $30 million total capital budget. Within the private-level funding, the HBA and Home Builders Care Foundation issued checks at the end of 2019 for $100,000 each. Donor pledges have put us at $1,008,120 total so far!

North Dakota State College of Science Alumni Foundation Executive Director Kim Nelson says, “Congratulations HBA members and contributors!  The NDSCS Alumni Foundation and NDSCS committees sincerely appreciate your time and effort in helping move this vision forward. As you all know, a skilled and well-educated workforce is in high demand, especially for those connected to the homebuilding industry.

“So, what’s next? We know the CWA is a solution and we won’t stop moving forward! The plan is to have a groundbreaking and shovel in the ground in early spring (as soon as the frost lets us).  We will keep you informed as progress is being made.  THANK YOU!”

A little more about the Academy itself:

  • It will not only benefit the students that we seek to recruit for the construction industry and multitudes of other industries, but it is one of the few causes where contributions, will generate a return on investment.
  • The Academy presents the best opportunity to build a skilled labor force because the public-school systems have been involved from the start.
    • Curriculum planning is already underway.
    • It will offer programming that will provide K-14 students, the incumbent workforce and new immigrants a curriculum to prepare them for successful careers.
    • To date, $21 million has been secured to begin the project from nearly 50 private businesses, Fueling Our Future, Cass County, City of Fargo, City of West Fargo and the U.S. Dept. of Commerce.
  • Phase II strategies will continue into 2021 and possibly include state funding as Governor Burgum recently announced in his 2021-2023 budget recommendations. Legislators have also prepared a bonding proposal to support workforce training across the state.
